A merchant was attacked early Saturday in Pacaraima of Brazil and the local residents blamed Venezuelan immigrants for it. The local residents in a statement alleged that the immigrants were involved in robbing and that they had mercilessly beaten the merchant.
Following which, several migrant encampments were attacked by angry residents. There has been growing hostility towards number of Venezuelan migrants entering Roraima state of Brazil in recent months.
People carrying stones and sticks set fire to tents and other items belonging to the Venezuelans.
Brazil is sending troops and extra police to the border town of Pacaraima where migrant camps were attacked.
President of Brazil Michel Temer called an emergency meeting to discuss about it and for taking necessary measures.
On the other hand, Venezuela has asked its neighbour to ensure the safety of its citizens.
