A suicide bombing claimed 31 lives in Balochistan's Quetta on Wednesday, as the nation prepared to cast their votes for the Pakistan general elections.
Six policemen were martyred in the explosion near Eastern Bypass in Quetta. The attack, which occurred outside a polling booth, claimed the lives of two children as well.
According to local officials, the policemen were guarding the polling booth. The suicide bomber had tried entering the polling station but was stopped by the police personnel, following which he detonated the bomb.
As per a hospital spokesperson, around 70 injured people are undergoing treatment at different hospitals. 29 of the injured are admitted at Sandeman Provincial Hospital Quetta, five at CMH Quetta and 17 others were sent to BMC Hospital.
According to media reports, the remains of the suicide bomber are to be sent to the forensics laboratory and the authorities are yet to register a case against the attack.
The Balochistan region has borne the burden of a series of attacks prior to the election that killed about 180 people during the brief but hostile campaign. On July 13, an explosion shook Mastung in Balochistan, killing 149 and injuring 200, becoming one of the deadliest in the country's history.
