Nobel prize for medicine won by cancer immunologists

James Allison of the US and Tasuku Honjo of Japan won the 2018 Nobel prize in medicine for the development of drugs that unleash the human immune system against cancer.

The Nobel Assembly today said, both the immunologists were honored for their discovery of cancer therapy by inhibition of negative immune regulation.

They will receive their prize at a formal ceremony in Stockholm on 10th December.

They will share the Nobel prize sum of about USD 1.01 million. Allison, a professor at the University of Texas, and Honjo, a professor at Kyoto University, also have won the Tang Prize in 2014 for their research.
