Delowar Mohammed Hossain, a 33-year-old New York man was arrested by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) at the John F Kennedy International Airport and charged with attempting to provide material support for terrorism.

The charge carries a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison.

Hossain planned to travel overseas and join the Taliban in order to kill American soldiers, as said by Assistant Attorney General for National Security John Demers.

According to the criminal complaint filed in the Manhattanfederal court said that beginning in the fall of 2018, Hossain expressed hisdesire to join the Taliban and fight against American forces.

"You know what I want to do, seriously, I justwant to take a frickin' machine gun and just shoot everybody and kill 'emall….this is all you want to do, OK, go to hellfire. Die you frickin'scumbags," Hossain told an informant about US soldiers.

Hossain also described to the undercover source the steps he had taken to prevent detection of his plan, such as planning to reach Pakistan by first flying to Thailand, which he believed would conceal his ultimate goal of joining the Taliban.

Hossain hadpurchased an airline ticket for a plane scheduled to depart from JFK toThailand on Friday.
