King Charles III to be Crowned on May 6, 2023

King Charles III to be crowned on May 6, 2023, said the British Royal Family by issuing a statement on Twitter.

According to Buckingham Palace, the coronation will take place at Westminster Abbey.

Taking to Twitter, the British Royal Family wrote, "The Coronation of His Majesty The King will take place on Saturday 6 May 2023 at Westminster Abbey. The Ceremony will see His Majesty King Charles III crowned alongside The Queen Consort".

King Charles III, son of the late Queen Elizabeth II, acceded to the throne after the queen passed away on September 8.

Kings and queens of England, and later Britain and the United Kingdom, have been crowned at Westminster Abbey since William the Conqueror in 1066. Charles is the 41st monarch in a line that traces its origins back to William, and he will be the oldest monarch to be crowned, reported Reuters.

The King will be coronated alongside his wife, Queen Consort Camilla.

The coronation will reflect the monarchs role today and look towards the future, while being rooted in longstanding traditions and pageantry, the palace said.

During the coronation ceremony, the sovereign is anointed, blessed and consecrated by the Archbishop of Canterbury. After receiving the orb and sceptres, the Archbishop places St Edward's Crown on the Sovereign's head, reported the PTI.
