G5 headquarters attacked by unknown militants, six killed

Unidentified militants reportedly attacked the headquarters of an African military taskforce in Sevare town of central Mali on Friday (local time).

The militants had hurled explosives in the premises of the G5 Sahel Force headquarters, killing six.

The G5 was created last year to eliminate terror violence in Sahel, a semi-arid region in Central-West Africa. it has soldiers from Mali, Burkina Faso, Chad, Mauritania and Niger.

Terrorist attacks have become frequent in the region due to the presence of terrorist outfits like al-Qaeda and Islamic State despite the efforts of French troops and peacekeepers stationed there.

Hundreds of people have been killed in various suicide attacks in Africa over the last few years.
