At least 17people were killed including eight Indians when a bus from Oman crashed into aroad sign in the United Arab Emirates, informed by the Indian consulate inDubai on Friday.
The consulatehad initially put the number of dead at six in the accident which took place onThursday evening but updated the toll later.
Theconsulate in a tweet said, "We are sorry to inform that as per localauthorities and relatives it is so far confirmed that eight Indians have passedaway in Dubai bus accident. Consulate is in touch with relatives of some of thedeceased and awaits further details for others to inform their families."
The Consulatein his tweet said that the eight Indians killed in the accident areRajagopalan, Feroz Khan Pathan, Reshma Feroz Khan Pathan, Deepak Kumar,Jamaludeen Arakkaveettil, Kiran Johny, Vasudev and Tilakram Jawahar Thakur. He alsosaid that four Indians were discharged after first aid and three are receivingtreatment in Rashid hospital.
Dubai policein a tweet on Friday announced the death toll in the accident.
According toreports, Mwasalat, a government-owned bus company in Oman, said that the crashinvolving its Muscat-to-Dubai route happened at 6pm on Thursday on SheikhMohammed bin Zayed Road.
Reports alsosay that the bus company would suspend its service for the immediate future.
