YouTube to curate original content in local languages

In an attempt to boost its unpaid subscription service, video-sharing website YouTube will reportedly be targeting its international market by providing its users scripted stories and other original content in local languages.

As per reports, YouTube will focus on its international audience in places like India, Germany, Japan, Mexico, and France with this new project.

According to Susanne Daniels, YouTube's global head of original programming, the new project will consist of engaging content like reality series, talk shows, scripted series, and music documentaries.

"We are targeting markets where we believe we have a tremendous upside in potential subscribers," Daniels said.
The programmes, which would be in local languages, will also have subtitles for multiple other languages in order to attract a bigger audience.

The video streaming site has already begun working on this project with a Hindi talk show in India called 'UnCricket' and a reality show about a pop band in Korea called 'Big Bang'.
