Tamil Nadu Govt to Release 700 Life Convicts Tomorrow

The Tamil Nadu government will release 700 life convicts on Wednesday (September 15), announced Chief Minister M K Stalin. These prisoners have been serving for long in the jail and will be released tomorrow on the occasion of the birth anniversary of former CM Late CN Annadurai.

Making the announcement in the state Assembly, Stalin said that the life sentence of the 700 convicts would be commuted and they would be granted premature release on humanitarian grounds and as a gesture of goodwill. 

An official order regarding the release of the convicts will be issued by the DMK government soon. 

Addresing the Assembly, CM Stalin said that his government has also withdrawn 5,570 cases registered against those who protested against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), Kudankulam nuclear plant, methane and neutrino projects, Chennai-Salem 8 way lane expressway project, reported Times Now.

The decision to withdraw these cases was already announced by Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin. A GO to this effect has now been issued.

The Tamil Nadu government has also urged the Justice Aruna Jagadeesan committee probing Tuticorin police firing and Justice Arumughasamy commission probing Jayalalithaa death to submit their final report soon, he informed.

"We have also told the justice A Arumughaswamy commission to complete the probe into former chief minister J Jayalalithaa's death early," the Tamil Nadu CM said.

A police commission to get a first-hand knowledge of the demands and needs of cops.

"A police commission will be constituted again by the state government to recommend ways to strengthen the relationship between police and public, necessary schemes and new training programmes for police personnel," Stalin was quoted by ToI as saying.
