Following the resignation of Union minister Babul Supriyo as the Lok Sabha MP of Asansol after he resigned from the BJP, necessitating the bypolls. Meanwhile, the Ballygunge assembly seat bypoll was necessitated after the death of state minister Subrata Mukherjee.
