Union Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Rajyavardhan Rathore have announced that the government will soon launch a scheme to test the sports ability of children.
The announcement was made in Ahmedabad in Gujarat when the minister was addressing a function.
The ambitious scheme is said to reach out to two to three crore children across the country.
The Minister said around one thousand children will be selected every year under the physical capability mapping programme.
Colonel Rathore added that each of the selected children would be provided an annual scholarship of Rs 5 lakh for eight years in order to help nurture their sports talent.
