Real Madrid and Brazil defender Marcelo in trouble

Real Madrid's Brazilian defender Marcelo has accepted a four-month suspended prison sentence and a EUR 750,000 (Rs 6.31 crore) fine as part of a deal to settle a tax fraud case, according to Spanish media.

The 30-year-old player reportedly defrauded the Spanish authorities of EUR 490,000 (Rs 4.13 crore) by using foreign firms to handle his earnings.

As per reports, Marcelo admitted to fraud and received a reduced prison term and fine as part of a deal with prosecutors.

However, the Brazilian is unlikely to spend time in jail as a two-year sentence for a first offence can be served on probation under Spanish law.

Marcelo follows a long list international superstar footballers have been accused of tax fraud in Spain which includes Lionel Messi, Neymar and Cristiano Ronaldo.
