On the second day of the first test match at Edgbaston, Virat Kohli once again proved why he is regarded as one of the best batsmen in the world across all formats as he scored his maiden test hundred on English soil.
The day belonged to King Kohli as his sublime knock of 149 took India took India to 274, considering a lead of 13 runs to England in the first innings. The lead looks marginal after the end of the day as at one point crossing the 200 runs mark for India was a difficult task but Kohli had other plans up his sleeves.
The defining knock exorcised the ghosts of 2014 tour of England where Kohli could only muster 134 runs in 10 innings at an average of 13.4.
England started the day at 285/9 and could only manage 2 runs to their overnight score before being bundled out for 287. Ashwin picked up 4 wickets for India while Shami chipped in with 3 wickets. Ishant Sharma and Umesh Yadav both picked up a wicket each in England's first Innings.
England finished the day two of the first Test 22 runs ahead, after India were bowled out for 274 runs in the first innings with Kohli making a memorable 149. England were 9/1 at stumps after Ashwin sent opener Alistair Cook back to the pavilion in the final ball of the day.
