India thrashed one of their major rivals and competitors Japan 9-0 in their third round-robin match of Men's Hockey in the ongoing Asian Champions Trophy at Muscat, Oman on Sunday night.
Harmanpreet Singh, Mandeep Singh and Lalit Upadhaya netted a brace each for India, with Akashdeep Singh, Gurjant Singh and Kothajit Singh being the other goal scorers.
It was India's third straight win of the tournament as they have now strengthened their chances of making it to the semi-finals.
India had registered a convincing 11-0 win over hosts Oman in their opening game, before beating arch-rivals Pakistan, 3-1 on Saturday. India will next play Malaysia on Monday and South Korea on Wednesday.
At the end of the round-robin stage, top 4 of the total six participating teams will play in the semi-finals. The semis are scheduled to be played on Saturday, with the final slated for Sunday.
