Asian Games Update: Vinesh Phogat gives India its second Gold

With Vinesh Phogat defeating Japan's Yuki Irie in the final of freestyle 50 kg category in Women's Wrestling on Monday evening, India bags its second Gold medal at the 18th Asian Games in Indonesia.

Vinesh has created history with this win by becoming the first Indian woman wrestler to win gold in the Asian Games.

Vinesh Phogat had entered the final after beating Uzbekistan's Yakhshimuratova Dauletbike 10-0 on technical superiority. Earlier, Bajrang Punia had given India its first Gold of the Games on Sunday in men's free style 65 Kg category.

Rio Olympics Bronze medalist Sakshi Malik and Pooja Dhanda lost their semi-final matches and later, both wrestlers also lost their respective bronze medal matches.

India clinched two silver medals in Shooting on Monday. In the Men's Trap, Lakshay bagged silver medal with an impressive 43 from 50 shots. Shooter Deepak Kumar claimed the Silver in the Men's 10-metre Air Rifle event with a score of 247.7 points. This was India's third medal in Shooting.

India's medals tally now goes up to five – two Gold, two Silver and one bronze. India is presently in the eighth position.
