Assam's Lovlina Borgohain lost to Chen Nien-Chin of Chinese Taipei by split decision in the Women's Welterweight division (69kg) semifinal on Thursday evening. Hailing from a remote village of Borpathar in Golaghat district, she was the primary aggressor of the two boxers in the ring with good height and reach. However the Chinese Taipei-girl was good in her defense and landed the punches in the right areas at the right time much to the disappointment of the Indian contingent. With this defeat Lovlina settles for a Bronze medal in her event.
Earlier India's Boxing Queen MCMary Kom proved her mettle yet again and kept her hopes alive for a record 6th World Championships title as she defeated People's Republic of Korea's Kim Hyang Mi by an unianimous verdict from the jury. Mary Kom will take on Ukraine's Hanna Okhota in the much awaited final of Women's Light Flyweight (45-48Kg) category on Saturday.
The World Championships is being staged in New Delhi's KD Jadhav Indoor Stadium from 15-24 November 2018 which is also the home of the Indian women boxing squad.
