Asian Games Update – Hima Das Qualifies For Women’s 400m Finals

Hima Das, the Golden Girl from Assam who recently made India proud in world track and field events, has qualified for the finals of 400m finals in the ongoing Asian Games in Jakarta.

In the semifinal heats, she finished in second spot behind Bahrain's Salwa Naser who created a new Asian Games record as she took top spot by finishing the race in 50.86 seconds.

Hima Das clocked 51.00 seconds and will be competing in the finals tomorrow with Naser being her major competition in the race for maiden Asiad gold for the youngster.

Another Indian, Nirmla Sheoren, has also qualified for the finals and will be running alongside Hima on Sunday.

This is noteworthy that Hima clocked 51.46 at the 400m in the IAAF World Under-20 Athletics Championships but she clocked 51.13 in the Senior National held at Guwahati, which was incidentally her best.

The sprinter had been practicing hard for her events at the Jakarta Asiad. With her personal coach Nipon Das by her side during the most crucial days of her three athletic events in Jakarta, she is confident of doing well in all her events.

Keeping in mind the brilliant timings Hima had been maintaining, she was given a Bye and as such, she did not run in the Round 1. She was directly selected for the Semi-finals.
