India just trailed by three runs against West Indies' first innings score of 311 all out after the second day of the second Paytm test at Hyderabad today.
A combined effort by Umesh Yadav, Prithvi Shaw, Ajinkya Rahane and Rishabh Pant playing starring roles, helped India to a position of strength at the end of the day as all likeliness of a huge inevitable lead in the first innings now looms large on the visitors.
Earlier in the day, Umesh's career best 6/88 restricted Windies to a total of 311 before Shaw's assault set the tone for India's reply. The Windies could only add 14 runs to their overnight score of 297/7 as Umesh added three more scalps to his overnight figure of three.
Young Prithvi Shaw, fresh from his maiden hundred on debut in the first test, showed glimpses of Virender Sehwag's destructive batting style as he hammered the bowlers to all around the park for a quick fire 70 off just 53 balls to set India's reply on track. The Windies bowlers however did come up with a spirited fight back halfway into the day's play, picking up quick wickets and showing plenty of discipline.
But Rahane and Pant's unbeaten 146-run association helped India overcome a couple of quiet passages of play and finish the day on the strong note at 308 for 4, just three shy of Windies' first innings total.
