In what seems like a replication of Dokmoka mob lynching incident, a video of a mob attack had been making rounds on social media.
According to reports, on Wednesday a violent mob brutally attacked five persons with lethal objects like sticks, iron rods etc. at Line No.15 of the Diplunga Tea estate in Biswanath district of Assam.
Police said that five persons from Sootea were in a tempo van, who were allegedly there to buy pigs at around 4:00 am, had been attacked on the suspicion of being cow thieves.
"We were on our way to buy pigs from Diplunga tea estate early on Wednesday morning. A mob with sticks, iron rods etc. stopped us and started attacking, accusing us of being cow thieves", said one of the victims.
One Deben Rajbongshi had been killed in the incident, while one named Papu Nayak has been missing. Three out of five namely, Phulchand Sahu, Bijay Nas and Pujen Rajbongshi who sustained injuries are under medical supervision in Biswanath.
Biswanath police is investigating the matter and further information is awaited.
