The umbrella organization of ST (Scheduled Tribe) status demanding six communities of Assam , Choi Janagosthiya Aikyamancha (CJA) has alleged Assam government of hatching conspiracy to trigger a split among the member constitutes of the umbrella body and state tourism minister Chandan Brahma has taken lead the government alleged ill motive.
The CJA while vowing to defeat the alleged ill motives of the state government said BJP would get fitting reply from all the six communities in coming Assam Rural election ( Panchayat) and Lok Sabha election for the betrayal.
Leaders of the CJA alleged that after the six communities have intensified movement for ST status, the government started its move to weaken the unity of the ethnic communities' organisation.
Representatives of six ethnic communities have intensified its movement for ST status after the meeting between them and MHA (Ministry of Home Affairs ) failed. The meeting was held on July 20 last at New Delhi, which was chaired by Union minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju. Organisations of ethnic communities alleged that both Central and Assam government have no intention to grant ST status to six communities of Assam.
Tribal Sangha , Assam and existing ST communities have opposed the movement of scheduling of six communities. The existing ST communities' fear was that if more communities to be included in the ST category then they would most likely to be deprived off from many benefits.
"We have rejected a talk offer between government and us . The offer was given by Assam tourism minister Chandan Brahma. Brahma has no authority for holding talk. When Rijiju failed to give a satisfactory conclusion regarding demand for ST status to us then Brahma is a small fish. The government again trying to create a split among the constituent members of the CJA", alleged Arunjyotui Moran , President of Moran Students' Union . MSU is one of the constituents of the organisation.
Granting of Scheduled Tribes status to the six communities – Moran, Muttock, Tai Ahom, Koch-Rajbongshi, Chutia and Tea Tribes – was a political promise of the BJP. The grant of ST to these communities will lead to Assam turning into a tribal-dominated state.
The BJP-led alliance had assumed power in Assam last year. In both Lok Sabha and State Assembly election, BJP enjoyed good supports from these six communities as promise after promise were made in every political meeting held in the state from all top BJP ranks right from Prime Minister Modi to Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.
