With hundreds gathering to pay their last tribute, brave son of Assam Bhaskar Kalita honoured with state honours leaves for his heavenly abode. The last rites of the martyr were performed by his one and a half year old son Darshik and nephew Himparash in his hometown at Majhirgaon on Saturday.
Receiving information about the presence of a group of ULFA (I) extremists in a house near Bordumsa, Assam Police and Cobra Battalion of CRPF led by Bhaskar Kalita raided the area on Saturday night. As the security forces cordoned off the area, the insurgents opened fire and in the exchange of bullets, the OC was shot dead.
Kalita's body was kept in Tinsukia Civil Hospital for the night followed by conducting the post-mortem on Saturday morning. Later, his remains were taken to Tinsukia Police Reserve where Director General of Police (DGP) Kuladhar Saikia among other police officials paid their tribute and with complete honours were taken to Dibrugarh Airport to fly his remains to his residence in Guwahati.
Around 3:20 pm, the Indigo aircraft carrying the mortal remains of Bhaskar Kalita landed in Borjhar Airport, after which the remains were directly taken to his residence in Majhirgaon. With hundreds of well-wishers gathered to witness Kalita for the last time, his grief stricken family did not wish for his return in a coffin.
His inconsolable family biding him final farewell, martyr Bhaskar Kalita's last rites were completed around 4:30 pm.
