October 30 has been marked as the Black Day in Assam after the serial blasts leaving hundreds of dead in 2008. It has been 13 years but the culprits are yet to be punished.
The All Assam Students' Union (AASU) has decried the fact that the culprits behind the blasts have not yet been punished. "The culprits of the October 30 serial blasts are yet to be punished. The government must ensure that they are punished. Also, the government must root out insurgency from the State," said AASU President Dipanka Kumar Nath.
The AASU leaders said that some families of those who had died in the October 30 blasts and some of the injured people had not received any help from the government. "The government must look into the matter and ensure that these families get the necessary assistance," he added.
On Saturday evening, the AASU, with the help of local people, will light earthen lamps in all district headquarters to pay homage to the victims of the serial blasts. They will also raise slogans against insurgency. On the other hand, the government who mourned the blasts only on the said day wrap up their responsibilities by lighting a lamp in the name of the martyrs.
