The security forces during search operations and area domination in the fringe and vulnerable areas of hill and valley districts recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition on Saturday.
During the operations, the following items were recovered:
(i) 5 (five) 2inch mortar shell, 5 (five) HE-36 Hand Grenade, 1 (one) Tear Smoke Grenade, 1 (one) Tear Smoke Shell, 2 (two) Tear Smoke Shell Soft Nose (SR), 1 (one) 38 mm Cartridge with Rubber, 1 (one) Country made Mortar Shell, 1 (one) 9mm CMG with 2 (two) Magazine, 1 (one) 7.65 mm Pistol Browning’s Patent with 1 (one) magazine, 1 (one) Revolver (Country Made), 1 (one) Air Gun and 1 (one) HTRF Walkie Talkie from Thoubal District.
(ii) 1 (one) Tear Gas Gun, 2 (two) Country made 9mm Pistol along with Magazine, 6 (six) SBBL Gun, 4 (four) Improvised Mortar (Pumpi Gun) from Churachandpur District.
Last Tuesday, the Manipur Police arrested a total of three active cadres of militant group Kangleipak Communist Party-People’s War Group (KCP-PWG) in Bishnupur district on Tuesday.
The cadres were allegedly involved in extortion of money from the public and government officials.
According to the police, arms and ammunition were seized from their possession. One 9mm pistol with four live rounds, one demand letter of KCP(PWG), three mobile phones were recovered.
Further, Rs 5,820 cash and two bikes were also recovered from the trio, sources said.
Upon receiving intelligence reports of armed individuals extorting money from local business owners in the southern region of the state, law enforcement initiated a targeted operation. After launching the cordon and search operations, the three persons were arrested.
A case has been registered in this regard and investigation is ongoing.
