In the early hours of Sunday, a devastating fire broke out at the 130-year-old Khasi Jaiñtia Presbyterian Girls’ Higher Secondary School, resulting in the complete destruction of the institution.
According to eyewitnesses who arrived at the scene, the boarders residing in the adjacent boarding house narrowly escaped the flames and were immediately shifted to Community Hall Mission Compound.
The boarders under the leadership of teachers, church elders held prayers and sang hymns and after the fire was put out by fire tenders, were escorted back to the hostel.
Till the filing of this report, the cause of the fire has not been ascertained and no casualties have been reported so far.
