Vande Bharat Express fails to impress on first outing

India's high speed semi bullet train Vande Bharat Express failed to impress  after the brakes in a carriage reportedly jammed when it was returning to Delhi from the city of Varanasi on its first outing on Sturday.

Soon after the brakes failed, the drivers noticed smoke in the last four coaches and power was lost in all compartments and electricity went off in four coaches while the controls developed a snag. A possible cattle run over seems to be the reason behind the disruption.

Officials and journalists who were on board on its first outing , had to take another train to get back to Delhi.

The new train service started its commercial run from Sunday. It is expected to reduce the travel time between Delhi and Varanasi by six hours.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi Friday flagged off the first semi-high speed Indian train from the New Delhi railway station.
