UN ‘Deeply Concerned’ Over Escalating Indo-Pak Conflict

The UN has expressed "deep concern" over the escalating tensions between Pakistan and India due to the Kashmir crisis.
UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres deeply concerned over the significant increase in tensions between India and Pakistan in the wake of the recent developments.

Antonio Guterres called on India and Pakistan to take "immediate steps" to de-escalate tensions between India and Pakistan. The UN Secretary also reiterated that his good offices are available if both sides ask.

A spokesperson for Secretary-General of the United Nations told that "The Secretary General stresses the importance for both sides to exercise maximum restraint and take immediate steps to de-escalation, and his good offices are always available should both sides ask".

It may be mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had warned Pakistan to expect a "strong response" to the bombing claimed by a Pakistan-linked militant group, raising fears of conflict between the nuclear-armed neighbors.

This was followed by, Pakistan's foreign minister appealed to the U.N. secretary-general on Tuesday to help ease tension with India that has escalated sharply following a suicide bombing in Pulwama.
