UGC urges higher educational institutions to prepare for ‘Fit India’

With an aim to build a healthy India, University Grants Commission (UGC) has urged Universities and  Higher Educational Institutions to make preparations for the Fit India movement.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his 'Mann ki Baat' programme on Sunday, had said that the government would launch the 'Fit India' movement on August 29.

UGC Secretary, Prof. Rajnish Jain said that the Commission has written to the institutions to make necessary arrangements to encourage students, teachers, staff and officials to assemble and take the fitness pledge which will be administered by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the main event in New Delhi.

The educational institutions have also been asked to prepare and implement an Institutional Fitness Plan, said Jain.

Further, the universities and colleges have also been requested to ask students, faculty members and officials to walk nearly ten thousand steps and promote healthy practices in the campus.
