In what could have been a tragic incident of trafficking, 25 minor girls were rescued by railway security personnel from the Muzaffarpur-Bandra Awadh Express after a passenger's tweet caught the attention of the authorities.
Adarsh Shrivastava, the passenger tweeted on Thursday that there were minor girls in his train coach who were visibly uncomfortable and were crying.
"I am traveling in Avadh express (19040). In S5. in my coach there are 25 girls all are juvenile some of them are crying and all feeling unsecure.@RailMinIndia @PiyushGoyal @PMOIndia @PiyushGoyalOffc @narendramodi @manojsinhabjp @yogi" his tweet read.
Officials in Varanasi and Lucknow sprung into action following the tweet. Reportedly, Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) rescued the girls in a few hours.
As per media reports, the GRP coordinated with the anti-trafficking unit of the police and Child-line. Some RPF personnel escorted the girls to Gorakhpur after boarding the train at Kaptanganj station in civil clothes.
