The Lok Sabha on Thursday began discussion on the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill, 2018. Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad today sought cooperation of political parties in passing the Triple Talaq bill in Parliament as it is in the national interest.
Talking to media outside Parliament, Mr Prasad reiterated that the legislation is above politics has nothing to do with religion. He said, the bill is aimed at ensuring gender justice and dignity.
Amid a demand by opposition parties, including the Congress and the Trinamool Congress, that the bill be sent to a select committee for study, Prasad said the government has already taken note of concerns expressed by members earlier and amended the bill accordingly.
Earlier, speaking to reporters, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Narendra Singh Tomar said, political parties should participate in the debate on it and should not politicize the issue.
