Railway Minister Piyush Goyal has informed that the government has targeted to replace all bio-toilets with vacuum bio-toilets in trains by March next year.
The Minister, in an interview, said that around 500 vacuum bio-toilets have been ordered. "Once the experiment is successful, all 2.5 lakh toilets in the trains will be replaced with vacuum bio-toilets" he said.
He said that this upgradation is being done to compete with the airlines.
"The vacuum toilets will be odour-free and the tracks will be cleaner" he added. These vacuum bio-toilets are also supposed to cut down water usage by 1/20th and has less chances of getting blocked.
