Many TMC leaders have changed their Twitter and Facebook profile pictures a day after the statue of Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar was vandalised during the violence following BJP president Amit Shah's roadshow in Kolkata.
Attaching the picture of the broken bust of vidyasagar, party leader Derek O'Brien tweeted:
Here's a picture of the desecrated bust of #Vidyasagar … More proof of vandalism by #BJP goons at Amit Shah's road show. #Kolkata pic.twitter.com/vQDlKj6vfj

Derek condemning the incident tweeted,
. @MamataOfficial "I do not have words to condemn the incident. I am myself ashamed… that, as people of Bengal, we cannot respect Ishwarchandra Vidyasagar because of these BJP goons. These leaders will be leaders of the nation ? Those who cannot respect icons ?" pic.twitter.com/CHYOTaHJD5

Other opposition parties also condemned the BJP for the vandalising the 19th century reformer's statue.
However, BJP has claimed that the Trinamool has conspired to frame the BJP by having the statue broken by their party workers.
#Mamata claims that BJP is doing it,I want to tell her,we are fighting in every state in the nation, unlike you on 42 seats in #WestBengal. Violence didn't take place in 6 phases of elections anywhere but Bengal which proves that TMC is responsible for it.#SaveBengalSaveDemocracy pic.twitter.com/xhuBani4vo

Union Minister Babul Supriyo, blaming it on Mamata Banerjee tweeted:
Can bet with 100% confidence that breaking the VidyaSagar Statue ws part of Mamtaji's #LargerSchemeOfDirtyPolitics, now her USP•She got it broken!#TMchhi did it•There's no way the BJP supporters cud hv entered the hostel&reached the statue that was deep inside the premises !!
