The Supreme Court on Tuesday ordered Kolkata police commissioner Rajeev Kumar to cooperate with the CBI in the Saradha chit fund case. The court though made it clear that no coercive steps, including arrest, can be taken against him.
Rajeev Kumar cannot be arrested but he has to make available all evidence to the CBI and cooperate with investigations, the Supreme Court said today as the centre accused the officer of "doctoring evidence" and shielding the accused.
The CBI moved the court seeking directions to Kolkata police commissioner Rajeev Kumar to cooperate with the investigation.The CBI had raised suspicions that the Kolkata top cop was destroying evidence in the chit fund case.
Mamata Banerjee held a press meet in the evening at Rajeev Kumar's home and alleged a complete constitutional breakdown. She lashed out at the centre for misusing the central agencies and demanded to know how they could come to a police commissioner's home without a warrant.
