Shashi Tharoor’s ‘Taliban in Hinduism’ remark ignites controversy

Days after sparking controversy with his "Hindu Pakistan" remark, Congress leader Shashi Tharoor has stepped into the spotlight once again as he lashed out against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and questioned whether they are trying to start a Taliban in Hinduism.

Tharoor allege that offensive slogans were raised against him along with threats and that he was asked to go to Pakistan. The former international diplomat also claimed that his office was damaged.

"They are asking me to go to Pakistan. Who has given them the right to decide that I am not a Hindu like them and I don't have the right to stay in the country? Have they started a Taliban in Hinduism?" Shashi Tharoor said, addressing a gathering on Tuesday.

On Monday, the Member of Parliament had accused the Bharatiya Janata Party Yuva Morcha of vandalism as his constituency office in Thiruvananthapuram was allegedly wrecked due to his political statements.

Last week while addressing an event in Thiruvananthapuram, Tharoor had said that if BJP stands victorious in the 2019 general elections, it will pave the way for the formation of a Hindu Pakistan.
