Shashi Tharoor summoned by Kolkata court over controversial ‘Hindu Pakistan’ remark

Congress leader Shashi Tharoor has been summoned by a metropolitan magistrate court in Kolkata on Saturday over his controversial 'Hindu Pakistan' remark.

It may be mentioned here that Tharoor, on Thursday, had stated that if the BJP wins the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, it will lead to the formation of a 'Hindu Pakistan'.

Subsequently, a Kolkata-based advocate Sumeet Chowdhury had filed a petition against Tharoor, stating that the latter's comments had hurt the religious sentiments of the countrymen and also insulted the Constitution. "Tharoor's comments intends to create great conflict and disharmony based on religious divide" the petition added.

Tharoor has been asked to be present before the court on August 14.
