Rahul Gandhi reveals Rs 15cr worth of assets

Congress president Rahul Gandhi's assets increased by 64 per cent in the last five years, from Rs 9.2 crore in 2014 to Rs 15.1 crore in 2019, primarily on the account of an office space he bought in Gurugram that was worth Rs 8.75 crore.

The findings come from the latest election affidavit submitted by Rahul Gandhi to the Election Commission of India as he filed his nomination for the 2019 Lok Sabha election from Wayanad constituency in Kerala on Thursday (April 4).

The affidavit shows that Rahul Gandhi does not own a car and has a total liability of Rs 72 lakh as loans from various banks and other financial institutions.

Gandhi has declared movable assets to the tune of Rs 5,80,58,799 and immovable assets worth Rs 10,08,18,284, with his total assets being worth Rs 15,88,77,083.

There are three main categories to classify wealth: movable assets (cash, bank deposits, shares and jewellery), immovable assets (agricultural land, buildings), and liabilities (including bank loans).

A total of 89 per cent of his current movable assets comprise bonds, debentures and shares in companies, election affidavits shows. This sub-category witnessed a six-fold increase from Rs 8 lakh in 2014 to Rs 51 lakh in 2019.
