A farmer was killed and 17 other were injured after their bus rammed into a parked truck on the side of the road near Kot Fatta village in Bathinda on Tuesday night. They were reportedly returning after a protest regarding the farm bills.

According to the police, all the victims were Bharatiya Kisan Union (Ekta Ugrahan) activists who were returning after an eight-day protest against the farm bills outside former chief minister Prakash Singh Badal's house in Muktsar district.

A farmer named Mukhtiar Singh, 62, died during treatment in a local civil hospital while the injured are currently undergoing treatment at the civil hospital and a private health institute.

"Our heartfelt condolences with the family of Mukhtiar Singh from Kishangarh village who died in the road accident near Bathinda. Deputy Commissioner and CMO have been directed to give utmost attention and help to all the injured," Finance Minister Manpreet Badal tweeted regarding the incident.

The incident took place after the protest on Tuesday, around 8 pm when the farmers were returning to their village and their bus rammed into a tractor-trolley standing on the road.
