PM to address 1st session of G-20 Summit

The 13th G-20 summit begins in Buenos Aires, Argentina on Friday with focus on building consensus on a fair and sustainable development in the field of agriculture. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to address the 1st session of the summit.

Foreign Secretary Vijay Gokhale said, the Prime Minister will make a lead intervention in the first session of the summit, based on the theme – 'Putting People First'.

Issues pertaining to risks posed by oil price volatility, flagship programmes including Skill India, MUDRA Yojna, Digital India and GST among others will be on the focus. Issues like the global economy, sustainable development will be discussed in the summit, informed Modi speaking at a function in Buenos Aires.

According to reports, PM met the Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman to deepen strategic ties between both the Countries.

According to MEA sources, Modi held discussions which focused on enhancing Saudi investment in technology, infrastructure, petroleum, renewable energy, food security, finance technology (fintech) and defence sectors.

The PM also had a meeting with UN General Secretary, Antonio Guterres to discuss India's role in addressing climate change globally with specific reference to the forthcoming COP 24 meeting in Katowice Poland.

Prime Minister is also scheduled to hold meetings with several world leaders including Chinese President Xi Jinping and German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
