Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday paid tributes to Congress leader and former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi on his 77th birth anniversary.
Born in 1944, Gandhi was the prime minister during 1984-89 and was assassinated in a terrorist attack in 1991.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also paid homage to his father and former Prime minister Rajiv Gandhi on his birth anniversary at Veer bhoomi, in New Delhi today.
Mr. Modi tweeted, "Tributes to our former PM Shri Rajiv Gandhi Ji on his birth anniversary."

Many other congress leader also paid their homage to the deceased Congress leader and former president in their twitter handles.
The official account of Indian National Congress (INC) tweeted with pictures of party members along with Rahul Gandhi paying homage to the deceased leader.
The tweet reads, "Shri @RahulGandhi offers floral tributes at Vir Bhumi on Shri Rajiv Gandhi ji's birth anniversary. #RememberingRajivGandhi"
The Assam Congress posted a couple of tweets remembering the great leader, ""We have to revive the tradition to fight for the poor and the opprrssed. Only by doing so shall we gain the strength to create the India of our dreams."– Rajiv Gandhi #CongressKeVichaar".
Another tweet read, "We pay our sincere tribute to the great visionary leader, architect of modern India, former Prime Minister of India, Bharat Ratna Rajiv Gandhi on his birth anniversary."
