PM Modi launches nationwide Swachhata Hi Sewa movement

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday launched the fortnight-long Swachhata Hi Sewa Movement in New Delhi through video conferencing.  The movement is aimed at fulfilling Bapu's (Mahatma Gandhi) dream of a Clean India.

"From today till Gandhi Jayanti, let us re-dedicate ourselves towards fulfilling Bapu's dream of Clean India", PM Modi said post the launch of the campaign.

PM Modi interacted with multiple numbers of people from across the sections of the society which included Jawans of ITBP, school-children, members of milk and agricultural cooperatives, Swachhagrahis and others during the launch.

The PM also interacted with number of prominent personalities like Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan, spiritual leaders Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev, and industrialist Ratan Tata etc.

On the occasion, PM Modi said that the cleanliness movement that started four years ago has now reached a crucial stage as cleanliness is a habit that needs to be included in the daily routine.

No one had imagined more than  4.5 lakh villages, 450 district and 20 states and Union Territories would be free from open defecation in 4 years and about 90 million toilets would be built, PM Modi informed.

Pm Modi proudly informed that very sect of the nation and people of every age have been associated with the campaign. The PM mentioned that due to Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, the cases of diarrhea and other diseases have decreased considerably.
