Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday ordered the formation of two new Cabinet Committees focusing on employment and economic growth.
This order comes close on the heels of a report by the Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) that showed India's unemployment rate at a 45-year high of 6.1 per cent in 2017-18.
It may be mentioned here that the Cabinet Committee on Employment & Skill Development constitutes of 10 members, which include Home Minister Amit Shah along with Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman among others.
On the other hand, the Cabinet Committee on Investment & Growth comprises of five members including Home Minister Amit Shah, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Railway Minister Piyush Goyal and Road Transport & Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari.
It may be mentioned here that economy has been a major concern for the government with the GDP rate dropping to 5,8 percent in the last quarter of 208-19, as per an NSSO report.
