Must be mindful of implications of words on Nation’s security: Manmohan Singh to PM Modi

Former Prime Minister and Congress leader Manmohan Singh maderemarks on the ongoing India China face off on Monday and said Prime MinisterNarendra Modi cannot allow China to use his words as avindication of its position.

Singh said, "Our Government's decisions and actions will have serious bearings on how the future generations perceive us. Those who lead us to bear the weight of a solemn duty. And in our democracy that responsibility rests with the office of the Prime Minister. The Prime Minister must always be mindful of the implications of his words and declarations on our Nation's security as also strategic and territorial interests".

He further added, "Disinformation is nosubstitute for diplomacy or decisive leadership. The truth cannot besuppressed by having pliant allies spout comforting but false statements".

Accordingto the former prime minister, China is brazenly and illegally seeking to claimparts of Indian territory such as the Galwan Valley and the Pangong Tso Lake bycommitting multiple incursions between April 2020 till date, "We cannot andwill not be cowed down by threats and intimidation nor permit a compromise withour territorial integrity".

Commenting on the martyred soldiers, the Manmohan Singh said, "PM Modi should ensure justice for soldiers who died in Ladakh; to do any less would be a historic betrayal of people's faith".
