According to Skymet Weather, heavy rains in Mumbai to continue on Thursday, traffic chaos and waterlogging expected.

According to a report, Santacruz in Mumbai recorded 69 mm of heavy rain in last 21 hours. Many areas of suburbs also received heavy showers.

The IndiaMeteorological Department (IMD) weather forecast said that intermittent rain orshowers likely in city and suburbs with possibility of extremely heavy falls atisolated places.

The Mumbai police also prepared Mumbaikars for red rain alert. In view of the red alert issued by the IMD, Mumbai Police has advised people to not step out of their homes until necessary. In a tweet, the Mumbai Police said, "The IMD has predicted very heavy rainfall in Mumbai and adjoining areas for next two days. A red alert has been issued in isolated areas across Mumbai & MMR regions for today. Kindly prepare your day. Ensure Safety. #Dial100 in case of an emergency."

The red alert bythe met department indicates a precipitation of more than 204 mm in 24 hoursstarting Thursday morning.

All the schoolsand junior colleges in Mumbai, Thane and Konkan region of Maharashtra wouldremain closed on Thursday in view of the "extremely heavy" rainswarning by the IMD. Mumbai would receive heavy rainfall on Friday, but Raigadwill continue to receive extremely heavy showers on the same day, an officialsaid. Due to heavy rainfall forecast by IMD, the state government has declareda holiday for schools and junior colleges in Mumbai and other neighbouringdistricts.
