Prime Minister Narendra Modi said India takes pride at the remarkable speed with which sanitation cover has been enhanced in the country on the occasion of World Toilet Day on Monday.
"Today, on World Toilet Day, we reiterate our commitment towards enhancing cleanliness and sanitation facilities across the nation. We in India take pride at the remarkable speed with which sanitation cover has increased in the last four years," Prime Minister Modi tweeted.
To accelerate the efforts to achieve universal sanitation coverage, Prime Minister Modi, in 2014, launched the Swachh Bharat Mission, which is aimed to achieve a clean India by 2019, as a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on his 150th birth anniversary, which will be celebrated next year.
Till date, 8, 86, 83,102 toilets have been built across India since the mission started.
