Following days of incessant rains and one of the worst floods in Kerala, the death toll due to the deluge has gone up to 29 on Friday.
More than 54,000 people have been left homeless as dam reservoirs and rivers overflowed, sections of highways collapsed and homes were swept away in half of the State.
Operation 'Madad' was launched by the Southern Naval Command (SNC) at Kochi from August 9, 2018 for assisting the state administration and undertaking disaster relief operations due to the unprecedented flooding experienced by the State following rains and excess waters from Idukki and other dams.
Almost all 40-odd rivers in the state are in dangerous situation, officials said.
Five columns of Army have been deployed in the state's seven severely-hit northern districts, out of Kerala's 14, to help evacuate people and to build makeshift bridges.
Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday assured Kerala CM of all help to deal with the devastating flood.
