Train services in parts of New Delhi have been suspended in order to deploy 500 rail coaches as isolation wards for diagnosed COVID19 patients.
According to a railway official, train services at Anand Vihar railway station have been suspended as all of its platforms have been reserved for the allocation of isolation coaches for coronavirus patients. The five trains that operate from Anand Vihar railway station will be functional from Old Delhi railway station.
This decision taken by the central government to provide and convert 500 railway coaches into isolation wards is to address the issue of shortage of beds in view of the escalating COVID19 cases in the capital city.
On Sunday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal held a meeting to review the existing situation of the city due to the outbreak of the pandemic.
