The Delhi Government on Saturday announced that all examination in state-run universities stands cancelled.
The decision is applicable to all final-year as well as other semester examinations in the state universities.
Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said that the entire semester there were hardly any classes taken and evaluation will be based on internal assessment and previous examinations.
Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said: "We believe that it is difficult to conduct exams when regular classes have not been held."
The decision will be implemented in universities such as Ambedkar University, Delhi Technological University, Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University For Women. The decision, however, will not be applicable to central universities such as Delhi University (DU), Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), among others.
Delhi Government's decision comes after the University Grants Commission had notified universities to conduct exams by September 30. The new UGC guidelines had received criticism from states, students, and teachers who accused the commission and the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) for putting the students' lives in danger.
