IMD issues thunderstorm warning for northeastern states

As per latest reports, death toll from Sunday's dust storm, rain and lightning has reached 84, with 52 people killed in Uttar Pradesh, 12 in West Bengal, 13 in Andhra Pradesh, five in Bihar and two in New Delhi.

President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have expressed their grief over the loss of lives.

The MeT department has stated that thunderstorms are occurring due to the circulation of a western disturbance in North West India and strong easterlies.

MeT officials have also informed that thunderstorms will continue for the next two to three days over North Western, Eastern and Southern parts of India.
