Cyclone Mekunu creates havoc in Yemen, 2 Indians dead and 12 missing

Cyclone Mekunu has created havoc in the Socotra Island in Yemen, killing seven people on Friday. Yemen's Fisheries Minister Fahad Kafin said that the bodies of five Yemenis and two Indians have been recovered. He further added that twelve Indians were still missing.

After Yemen, Mekunu lay centred over Oman which moved further northwestwards with a speed of 8 kilometers per hour during past six hours.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), it weakened into a severe Cyclonic Storm and lay centred over Oman about 100-kilometre west-northwest of Salalah on Saturday.

It is very likely to continue to move northwestwards and weaken into a Cyclonic Strom during next 6 hours and into a depression during subsequent 6 hours.

The Embassy of India in Muscat informed that two ships from the Indian Navy, INS Deepak and INS Kochi have sailed from Mumbai containing humanitarian aid material as well as helicopters equipped for rescue operations.
