Congress fields boxer Vijender Singh from South Delhi

The Congress on Monday fielded Olympic bronze medal-winning boxer Vijender Singh as its candidate for the South Delhi Lok Sabha seat.

After his name was announced, Singh, in a tweet, said that he has always made the country proud in the boxing ring and he would strive to serve the people in his new role.

Singh, who hails from Haryana's Bhiwani, thanked the Congress, Rahul Gandhi and party General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi for the responsibility given to him.

Congress announced names of 6 other candidates earlier today with the veteran Sheila Dikshit fighting from the North East Delhi seat, Ajay Maken from New Delhi seat, JP Aggarwal from Chandni Chowk, Arvinder Singh lovely from East Delhi, Mahabal Mishra from West Delhi and Rajesh Lilothia from North West Delhi (SC).
