China blocks effort to ban Masood Azhar

China once again blocked the proposal for a ban on Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) chief Masood Azhar at the United Nations (UN). The proposal was brought by France, US and UK to designate Azhar as a global terrorist after the Pulwama attack.

"This has prevented action by the international community to designate the leader of Jaish-e-Muhammed, a proscribed and active terrorist organization which has claimed responsibility for the terrorist attack in J&K on February 14, 2019," the Government of India said in a Statement.

Meanwhile, the UN Security Council members on Thursday said that they may be forced to pursue other actions at the Security Council if China continued with this policy.

Notably, this is the fourth time that China has blocked a ban on Azhar.
